Introduction

ISO/IEC 17025 Laboratory Accreditation is the criteria for laboratories to demonstrate that they are technically competent to carry out specific test methods, to generate valid calibration and test results and operate an effective quality system. ISO 17025 applies to any organization that wants to assure its customers of its precision, accuracy and repeatability of results.

The scope of accreditation may not cover the entire laboratory but individual substances to be tested as well as the specific analytical test method for that substance. Every product-test method combination is carefully examined, after which an accreditation is issued.

QMS provides ISO 17025 laboratory accreditation services in addition to our complement of management systems certification activities. The Accreditation of laboratories is achieved by formalizing and adapting existing procedures, and developing new ones in a manner compatible with international practices. The quality system and technological management are examined during annual certification body reviews.

Supplier Requirements:
The most prominent supplier requirement in North America is that of the big three automotive manufacturers calling for QS-9000 and/or ISO/TS 16949 registered suppliers to utilize testing or calibration laboratories accredited to ISO/IEC 17025. These requirements are applicable not only to direct suppliers but also subcontracted testing and calibration laboratories used by their suppliers.
